About The Huber Heights Police Explorer Post 57

About Police Exploring and Our Post

The Huber Heights Police Explorer Post #57 has been in operation since May of 1979.

The Explorer Post is headed by the Advisor, Mark Bruns, and is assisted by Associate Advisor Officer Curt Green.

The Explorer Post is currently staffed by twenty young people, ages 15 to 20.

The Explorer Post prepares young men and women for a career in law enforcement. Explorers are instructed in police procedures, law, and hands-on experience by riding with police officers on a tour of duty. They participate in many different police and training functions throughout the year. These functions are designed to let them experience various areas of law enforcement under close supervision. These functions may include providing security, crowd and/or traffic control at public events, evidence collection, searches, and national gatherings to compare knowledge and experiences with explorers from other departments. Last, Law Enforcement Explorer posts help promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

In July 2008, the Huber Heights Police Explorer post attended the bi-annual National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado, where they competed with over 4800 other explorers throughout the nation. As one of the competitions they competed on, was "Hostage Negotiations" sponsored by the FBI Hostage Negotiation Team. The four man team from Huber Heights Police Explorers placed 5th place in the nation for this, and we are proud to say this has been the first group to ever place anything at nationals since the post's operation.

The four man team consisted of: Captain Danny Tucker, Lt. David Pfiffner, Sgt. Zach Williams, and Sgt Zach Miller! (The names and ranks of the above named explorers were effective as of July 2008)

If you would like to join the explorers, you may go to the page "Explorer On-Line Application" to enroll.  Information on required standards is posted on the page.
